Dayan Chanoch Ehrentreu zt”l was born in Frankfurt in 1932 to Rabbi Yisroel z”l and Rebbetzen Blima o”h Ehrentreu. The Beis Hamedrash is named after his father. His grandfather was the Munich Rov, HaGaon Rav Chanoch Ehrentreu, after whom he was named.

In 1960, the Dayan zt”l founded Sunderland Kollel, which he headed until 1979, when he moved to Manchester, where he was appointed Av Beis Din. In 1984, Lord Rabbi Jakobovits z”l appointed The Dayan Shlita as Rosh Beth Din in London. Subsequently, The Dayan became zt”l Av Beth Din of The European Beth Din 2008, retiring from the London Beis din at around that time, whilst continuing his guidance as a consultant to the Beis Din.

In 2006, the Dayan zt”l founded a Kollel in Edgware which has had a tremendous impact on the Edgware community and a Kollel in Borehamwood in 2019 which is thriving.

In 2018, The Dayan zt”l was awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany in recognition of his contribution to the German Jewish community, a poignant moment for the Dayan.

Rebbetzen Ruchie Ehrentreu ylc”t is a descendant of an illustrious family, her parents Reb Osher z”l and Devora o”h Sternbuch lived in Stamford Hill. The youngest of nine children, the Rebbetzen’s father passed away when she was a young girl and her mother was a strong personality, who raised her children to become world renowned Rabbonim, Roshei Yeshivos , Rebbetzens and communal leaders all over the world.

The Rebbetzen was the driving force behind setting up Chevra Kadishas for Ladies in Manchester and then in London for the United Synagogue and in 2017 she was awarded a BEM for services to the vulnerable and elderly in North West London through her role as a chaplain at the Royal Free Hospital, visiting patients for over thirty years and setting up the NW London Neshei. She is a teacher by profession and an inspirational leader to our Kehilla and beyond. She continues to be a beacon of light and strength to everyone she encounters.
